S. Kathryn Jiménez Boyd

Hi, my name is Kat!

I was born and raised in America, but I left at 16 with the blessing of my family and have been living in Europe for the past 21 years (Spain for a total of 19 years, with a 2-year research stay in Sweden from 2024-2025).

I’m an ATA-certified Spanish and Catalan to English (UK or US) translator, editor, and medical writer who specializes in the realms of science, medicine, and business/finance. I have two sets of degrees: B.Sc. Business Administration (2009), M.Sc. Hotel Management (2010) and B.Sc. Biomedical Science (2025), M.Sc. Genetics and Genomics (2026).

On a more personal level, I’m a dreamer, a believer in a better world, a traveler, an inquisitive mind, a progressive, and a scientist. My home base is near the beach in Castelldefels, just south of Barcelona.

My hobbies include riding horses, playing the piano, reading, drawing, hiking, trail running, skiing, and exploring new things.

My main hobby right now, though, is pursuing a line of research that focuses on finding the molecular mechanism behind and characterizing a particular sub-type of Bipolar I disorder secondary to undiagnosed non-celiac gluten intolerance.

I spearhead an international neuroscience research collaboration between the Lindskog Laboratory in Uppsala, Sweden, and the Giralt Laboratory at Hospital Clínic in Barcelona, Spain, conducting research on astrocytes, a type of brain cell. I do both bioinformatics and wet lab work.
